The Man in Crutches

As I was walking into Kinko’s to buy some pens, I noticed a debilitated-looking elderly gentleman slowly approaching the door aided by a pair of crutches. An employee and I stood there and held the door open for him and he graciously thanked us.

I went to find my purchase, and brought my goods to the counter where the man in crutches was talking with the cashier. The man has been battling an illness for twelve years that has caused him to be in his current state. He said that he’s been fighting it for a long time…

The cashier said, “I bet they didn’t expect you to be such a fighter, and that you’d be fighting until the end.”

The man smirked and replied, “No… no… I will be fighting until victory…”

Vincent Laforet

Vincent Laforet, recently popular for his short film titled “Reverie” is back at it again! While “Reverie” was shot completely with Canon’s 5d MKII, “Nocturne” has been shot with Canon’s brand spankin’ new 1d MKIV (I’ve read something about the camera actually being named the 1d MKV because of Japanese superstition with the number 4 [pronunciation similar to "death"]). The brand new camera is expected to be announced soon. Check out the video below which was shot at a super clean 6400 ISO.

I personally loved the “Reverie” video, but wasn’t really feeling “Nocturne”. Maybe because “Reverie” was so much more ground breaking? Or maybe because HD video coming out of a DSLR doesn’t phase me anymore? Everyone and their mom has a 5d MKII now.

If you guys know us, you know that Shinobi Studios shoots exclusively with the Nikon brand. However, we can’t deny the awesomeness of the Canon video capabilities. I’ll admit that I am a bit jealous, especially since Nikon recently announced some new gear like the Nikon D3s which shoots 720p video. So if Nikon’s top-of-the-line camera only gets 720p video, what about Nikon’s lower end bodies? Sigh. I’ve gotta have faith though.

Nikon, please stop making me think about cheating on you. kthxbai.

“It’s nearly impossible to stay anonymous in this age of cell phones, video, and social websites; and that’s a good thing, if it holds people more accountable for their behavior,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of LAPD detectives downtown, today about the 20th arrest related to the Lakers Championship melee on June 14th (a list of all arrests are embedded below). Detectives have been using security footage from around downtown, complementing it with videos and images posted on websites like YouTube and Flickr.”

We’re very proud to announce that we’ll be teaching a photography workshop for 4C The Power on Saturday, September 5th, 2009. We’ll be covering some really useful topics and welcome photographers with all ranges of experience to join. Even if you don’t have a camera, but would like to learn more about photography, we invite you to join the workshop. For those of you without cameras, we will have a few extra cameras and lenses for you to use during the workshop. If you guys are into other forms of art and media there will be tons of other great mentors there such as: Far*East Movement, FR*A, Wong Fu, DJ Virman, and David Choi.
